Exclamation Best Ovdrive pedal?

Sign in to disble this ad

Iv been lookign and trying for about 2 months now tryign to find the proper overdrive/distrotion pedal for me.

I tryed the overdrive/distortion on my ZOOM B2.1U multi-effects pedal but I can't seem to get the right sound out of it.

Im looking for a overdrive pedal that gives me the same sort of tone of Joe Principe from rise against. Probly the best example of the sound im looking for is in the songs "Six Ways 'Til Sunday", "Black Masks and Gasoline" and "The Dirt Whispered", all by Rise Against, even songs like "Like the Angel" and "Life Less Frightening" where he uses a cleaner sound but still a slight overdrive.

by the way I use a Warwick doublebuck, its got a huge range of sounds, pretty much any sound you'd want in a guitar before putting effects to it. I almost dont need to have effects on it, jsut need a bit more "grit" on it

any help would be much appreciated!

A lot of times when people in this forum about copping a specific overdrive tone the answer is a P-bass through Ampeg. This is one of those times.

From the two songs I listened to it sounds like a P-bass through an Ampeg (or at least one channel of Ampeg) and being played with a pick.

Are all the $$'s active basses? Even if it isn't, the MM style pickups and pickup placement makes it sound fairly different than a P-bass. Still, it sounds like what would best suit your needs would be a BDDI or a VT Bass from Tech 21.

Hope that helps.

The VT Bass, as many here will attest, is fantastic for copping overdriven (and even clean) Ampeg tones. The VT will get you your grit, in spades.

Get the VT pedal. Don't even think about it. Just do it.

I would have to agree. Its probably the simplest route to achieving the tone you are after.

After listening to Black Masks and Gasoline live on Youtube (well, the first 30 seconds anyway), yep...either buy an SVT rig and dime it or buy a VT Bass pedal...pedal of the future!
