I did a quick search and didn't find anything recent, sorry if this has been covered before.
There a couple of moments in my band where I lock into a sparse kick drum rhythm while the guitars both play higher up the neck.
I'd like to have a pedal to go from my more mid rangy, growly tone (Ric 4003 in to a GK1001RB with lots of Boost) to a deeper, phatter tone that just kinda sounds like a huge kick drum
Would an EQ pedal be my best bet for this? Or some kind of filter/dirt? Or maybe I just love buying new pedals

Sounds like a brutally devastating combination to me - would love to hear it! Definitely worth checking into at the very least. EQ would sculpt the tone a little differently, but I don't think it will bring anything close to the kind of tone you described on its own. Best of luck...

EDIT: Also, EHX is coming out with a new pedal this year called the Hog's Foot which is also a bass boost. Not sure if you want to wait for it though

Really hard to get a sense of it from clips though, it's the kind of thing you really have to try with your own bass and rig, and there's no chance of seeing one locally around here.
Hmmm... the letters "DIY" are entering my head...

Virtually any eq pedal will do what you want. I wouldn't recommend a dirt pedal for a "kick drum" sound. I'd recommend an Xotic Bass RC Booster with the bass control up a bit & the treble slightly cut. Instant, deep dub tone with adjustable volume! http://www.xotic.us/effects/base_rc/ |

The Bass RC isn't the cheapest pedal, but it is uber-transparent (with the eq flat) and has very high headroom (a lot more than the guitar version!). |

It works fine but I would really like to know more about Hog`s foot. Knockout boosts frequencies below 85 Hz and it can be blended with original signal. Does anyone know what is the frequency range of boost with Hog`s foot? It has only one knob so does it boost only certain low frequencies or is it boost with low frequency emphasis? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
