| | | | Best pedal for gritty/grinding hi-gain distortion?
Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking for a pedal that is strictly a distortion, something that is hi-gain, trebly, crunchy, gritty, grinding. What I don't want is fuzz, or tube ovedrive, or even normal ts-808 overdrive, I want some serious hi-gain grinding distortion. Have I decribed what I want yet ? I have narrowed it down to Tech 21 XXL Bass, Pro Co Turbo RAT, Sansamp GT-2, and HAO Rust Ride. Which of these is best for what I want? Is there something better for this? |

The paradriver had a wide range of distortions if memory serves me.

There was a thread recently about the Boss HM2 also, you might look into that.

i have one right now. turn the filter all the way to the right and you'll have all the low end you need.

The Orange Peel is an Orange MkII clone |

Never tried anything else that'd fit your description, but I think this'd do it... watch Spanky's videos if you haven't. |

This sounds like a job for the Metal Zone, but I've got an XXL somewhere around here too. I'll see if I can do a demo of that for ya. And I may be able to borrow a friend's GT-2 for a quick demo.
But to be quite honest, everything you listed (except the XXLB) are notorious for loss of lows. |

Shame on you for ransacking the starving funds of a college student.
How much work is involved if I don't order the pedal pre-built? Like, is there a lot of soldering involved? The site isn't very specific on that account, and I'm mechanically retarded so I doubt I'll be able to figure this out all on me-lonesome. |

You just gotta play with the gain and blend and it can go from overdrive to distortion to fuzz. I've been able to dial in some great high-gain distortion.

On extreme settings I found it even almost able to start copping fuzz sounds. However I have moved onto a Tonefactor Huckleberry lately and have been using that for all my high gain stuff.

| | | | best ive ever tried (and own) is the sansamp psa 1.1. ive tried out a pile of other "bass" overdrives but none of them really compared. beats the hell out of the popular odb-3, thats for sure. its expensive usually though...but i got it for $150 new |
