Best Rack mounted Multi Effects?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I'm a noob to the forum, Lately I've been interested in getting a rack mounted multi effects unit.I was wondering what you think is the best one in terms of it not coloring your sound, price range etc..

One I was looking at recently was the TC electronic G major / G major II . I think it's a guitar effects unit but I've read that chris Wolstenhome is using them.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Goinginside

TBH the word "best" is so relative it's meaningless. Effects color your tone, that's what they do--of course the bypass is something that needs to be uncolored.

Here's what we need in order to help you:

--What is your actual budget? (Please don't say "won't break the bank"; state an actual number.)

--What effects are important to you? Some multi's are better at (for example) modulation and reverbs, while others are better at amp modeling, and yet others are designed to emulate a guitarist's whole pedalboard. Almost none of them are good at overdrive or distortion, but some are "less bad" than others at that.

--Will you be combining it with other effects, and if so, which ones?

Also you'll want to read through the FAQ stickied in this forum.

Right Fair enough My budget is about €400-€500, not including a midi pedal.
I don't want amp modelling just effects, namely octaver, reverb, delay, chorus, flange and overdrive. In terms of combining well at most the drive with each of the aforementioned effects (not all at once), and possibly a wah pedal on the floor.

By the way my gear thus far is:
92' Fender Jazz USA
96' Ampeg SVT 2 PRO
Ampeg 4x10
Ampeg 1x15

I have heard excellent things about the TC Electronics G Major - it is supposed to be a nice unit. I use the Rocktron XPression unit which I like a great deal - I don't necessarily agree that a good unit "colors" tone; I believe that a good effects unit simply "effects" the tone presented - I have found the XPression to do just that, but you desire for OD may need to come from a specific OD unit as OverDrives do effect, change and exaggerate tone.
I've also used the Intellifex unit. I find this to be a very good effects box as well.
