Did you 'roll your own' or is it a kit of another pedal anyway?
If you rolled your own, was it based on anything or did you just come up with a basic schematic idea and start plugging components into a breadboard and experiment?
EDIT: noticed you said experimental trial and error..

Also, while its relatively easy to get a fuzz happening to possibly meet your needs, building a pedal for modulation is a lot more complicated. I don't think you would satisfy all your needs by building very easily
