Best synth+chorus combination?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there guys,

I've been lurking in the Effects forum for a while but I haven't really seen this question come up. I love the sound of an analog synth sound oscilated with an analog chorus pedal, but i have absolutely no idea where to start.

I'm mostly a fuzz/overdrive guy but as I get into more electronica sounds I'd like to extend my board.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I used the markbass super synth and hardwire cr-7 together with great success. Neither is analog but both do a very convincing synth tone and sounded really good combined. The movement and detuened sound a chorus gives to synth tones sounds better than other modulation imo., really brings the sounds to life. I since got the swr mini mo which has octave/saw wave/chorus in one unit, so both of these pedals is up for sale in the classifieds.

I really like the hexachorus effect in the Roland GR-55. Awesome chorus adding 6 chorused sounds instead of just 1. However, I cannot seem to find any other boxes that have a similar multi-chorus effect like that.

the CR-7 has a mode called MULTI, Hardwire describes it as "True 8-voice chorus; the lushest chorusing found in a pedal"

I like using old 80's choruses BEFORE (or parallel looped) the synth. The DOD, Arion and Boss bass choruses all seem to work pretty well if you just max the effect level with a really slow rate. They give this huge synthy electronic starting tone for all the synth madness and they don't seem to affect the tracking too much.

I've tried a bunch of different choruses after the synth and found that I really just prefer a flanger in that spot. The chorus sound seems to usually muddle the mids too much and you lose all note definition.
