There is a difference between the two, but not a great deal at all. If I set them up for the same sound and ask another musician which they prefer, I've either heard each time that the BF-3 sounds better or they can't tell much difference. Honestly, if I just turn one on and start playing I have to look back down to see which one is on to remember and in a band setting you'd never tell the difference. I like the BF-3 a bit better, but would use a BF-2 without reservations. They sound very close. If you have a BF-3 already then don't waste you money on a BF-2 even if it is cheap unless you are an absolute tone snob. That's my 2 cents worth.
