Hey all,
I recently did something really stupid and ripped the 9 volt battery clip out of my green Russian Big Muff Pi. I soldered a new one to the old leads and now when I turn it on I barely get any output volume.
Any idea what's wrong?

Turns out if I take the Muff out of the pedal board and plug straight in it works fine. So, could the fact that it's 4th in a pedal board have anything to do with it?

Could be a power drain from the daisy chain. I'll try giving the Muff it's own power and see what happens.

My board is as follows:
ToneBone BassBone
TU-2
SansAmp Bass Driver
MXR Bass Octave
Big Muff Pi
Tube Screamer
Tube Screamer
Digitech Turbo Flange
True Bypass switch for my MoogerFooger Lowpass Filter
Line 6 DL4
Boss RC-20 Looper

If you plug the muff into its own 9V power supply and go bass, muff, amp, you still get a volume drop?
At what point on the volume knob does it reach unity gain? |

When it's in the pedalboard then the volume drops. It's the first distortion in the chain, and the power doesn't seem to effect it. Weird right?

But once again it's:
Radial BassBone
Boss TU2
SansAmp BassDriver
MXR Bass Octave
EHX Big Muff Pi
Ibanez Tube Screamer
Another Ibanez Tube Screamer
Digitech Turbo Flange
a home made looper/bypass switch with an output attenuator that loops to a MoogerFooger Lowpass Filter
Line 6 DL4
Boss RC-20 Looper
Amp

Plug in bass -> muff -> amp...
Then plug in one at a time each pedal before the muff...
So, 1. bass, tonebone, muff, amp
2. bass, tuner, muff, amp
3. bass, sansamp, muff, amp
4. bass, octave, muff, amp
If this is good, try...
1. bass, muff, ts, amp
2. bass, muff, other ts, amp
...and so on.
If it's a pedal combo, you'll find the culprit. |

OK this is weird.
I tried all the pedal combination like rratajski suggested and in that process I discovered that if I give the looper/bypass pedal it's own power source then the Muff works.
As far as I knew that looper is all passive circuitry but I guess not!! Must have been draining signal or Milliamps or... something!
Thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone. Especially rratajski. Electronics are a mystery sometimes. At least to me.
