Question Big Muff PI - Low end loss

Sign in to disble this ad
Been fiddling with my muff and i've noticed that high up the fretboard its fine but on an open E etc the bottom end has disappered.

Is this to do with my settings on the muff

Tone 2 o'clock
Sustain 11 o'clock ish

Or is there something i can do on the amp.

Or should i just use my OD pedal for the low and the Muff for the high

Thanks in advance

the bif muff is well known for losing low end.. you'd know that if you had done a search

most people use a blend pedal to blend the fuzzed signal with their clean signal to keep the low end

I was pretty sure it was known for it as i had done searches previously but wanted to make sure and get a fix if possible.

Thanks

I have my tone as low as possible on the big muff. and rarely move the sustain of the lowest setting too...keeps as much bottom end as I can get without opening the sucker up.

Still gives me a ton of fuzzy goodness!!

No worries...

That's basically what I did. I had never played bass through one and found it on ebay for a good price so grabbed it, as I wanted to try it out. started in the middle and worked my way back....

I know of a few people who compensate by upping the volume on it. When I had a BMP, I used a Boss GEB-7 and it worked wonders.

Someone posted a video to a guy playing a Big Muff with an X-Blender pedal a while back (don't have the link anymore..), it sounded pretty good. I have a LBM I picked up to mess around with, and it's a major tone killer. I want to try it with a blender but those thinsg cost a pretty penny :-\ It just feels wrong blowing like $300 total for a stupid fuzz! I'll probably do it eventually anyway lol...

I just bought Bassjunkie's Big muff modded to Tonebender specs, and its the best fuzz I've ever heard. Take a look at his thread on it, I believe specs are posted and if you have solder skills it's a much cheaper option.

the tone at 2 o'clock cant help things
try turning that down more and you wont lose so much bottom end
