Big Muff and a Sans amp

Sign in to disble this ad
If you used both of these pedals together what you get what type of tone?

I am thinking about investing in a sans amp...

As a rule, the Sansamp makes any overdrive more defined, more sharp. Good combo.

Chances are good that I'll always have a Sansamp around for the sake of maximizing the tone I get from dirt boxes.

Works great! The Sansamp can work as an EQ to the Big Muff, boosting the lows and giving it more presence.

Depening on how you set it, it would sound very similar to a Big Muff into an SVT.

You do realize that "lows" and "presence" are 2 different things, right?

Yes, 2 different things that the SABDDI does very well.

My current pedalboard setup includes a Sanford and Sonny Bluebeard fuzz (modded Muff clone) into my Sansamp BDDI - I like the sound of the Bluebeard without the BDDI, but I like it better with.

I also like a Boss Blues Driver into the Sansamp. It provides me with a geometrically larger selection of sounds to choose from.

I run my Sans BDDI in a loop with my Bassdrive and it sounds real sweet! It doesnt make it sound fart-ish like the bassdrive alone but more tube like with added edge. Id say go get yourself one!

I was going to reply with "It would sound like awesome," but you pretty much just beat me to it.

As a stand alone pedal, i cant use my big muff. I need my sansamp clone to make it worth while. I use a Behringer DBI 21, and that works great?

Sans amp after any distortion pedal is generally a great setup. The speaker emulation helps out the high end a LOT.

I've got some RAT->Sansamp sound clips in here: Fun with Dirt

slightly off topic, BUT
i used an electro harmonix bass blogger (on the overdrive setting) through both the big muff and sansamp bass XXL (seperataly and together)
and it sounded awesome (in all combinations)
so much balls, replaced any and all of the lost low end and gives everything way more presence

just thought id share that hahaha
will be purchasing both the blogger and XXL vurrrry soon

The XXLB isn't part of the SansAmp line since it doesn't emulate a tube amp.

It's still made by Tech21, though.

Hijacking an old thread, rather than making a new one...

I've been very keen on upgrading my BDDI to the programmable version, however I've recently seen on eBay a new Bass Big Muff for cheaper than the secondhand programmable.

Opinions vary but I really only have a day or so to decide on what to do before I miss my chance on the programmble.

Question: Is the Big Muff into the BDDI really a better tonal direction to go in than just the drive on the BDDI alone? I really dig the driven tone of the BDDI but I need something to switch (currently I adjust the knobs before the start of a song -- I want to be able to switch to it without having to tell the drummer to wait 5 seconds).

I know I'll use the programmable and I know the sound. But if I can save $100 and get a better sound...

I think I shall have to try this...

Well, the Bass Big Muff is a different sound than the BDDI with the Drive knob. I, personally, will say to go with the Programmable, because, FWIW, you're already expanding your tonal range. And then save up for a Bass Big Muff (which pop up here in the classified from time to time.) because you can always find those. This is a deal that doesn't come up very often.

I get into some ridiculous feedback running my muff into my VT bass... which i find to be extremely odd. Although it's tons of fun cause then i turn on my digitech chorus and make crazy UFO sounds!

Hmm yeah I think you've echoed my feelings here on this one. I know I dig the BDDI sound; shelling out a couple hundred for something I might think less of is a gamble I really don't need to take right now. And having three tonal options at a click instead of one with or without fuzz is probably a better road to travel. Thanks :-)
