Big Muff type pedals..?

Sign in to disble this ad
of all the big muff type pedals out there which ones work well with bass. I know that ehx makes a bass version. and also consider I have a blend pedal so I can use that if the pedal doesent have one.

also I'm looking at what's out now and not something vintage or discontinued

The Bass Big Muff is the best option of the ehx muffs. It is tuned for bass and has the most flexibility (with its bass boost and dry/blend functions, which the other muffs lack)

Well, just about any version is available on the almighty ebay...some just cost a lot more than others.

Here's a quick and dirty breakdown...
Current versions:
NYC Reissue - Fuzzy, loud, not a lot of tonality. Mega huge box.
Little Big Muff - Ballsier than the NYC. Small box. Keeps more lows than the NYC, but pretty buzzy.
Bass Big Muff - Based on the older green Sovtek. Has a blend. Keep the lows, less gain than NYC and LBM.
Tone Wicker - Probably not the best bass pedal. Let's you bypass the tone or get a 'raspy' tone.

Ebay:
Ram's Head - High gain. Mids are pretty scooped.
Violet Ram's Head - More mids, less gain than Ram's Head.
Triangle - Heavy. Fuzzy. Scooooooped mids.
Green Sovtek - Big box. Less gain and more bass friendly.
Black Russian Reissue - Muddy. Less gain. Sort of bass friendly if you like muffled mud.

Clones/replicas:
Out the wazoo...Too many to get into...

Clones/variants I've been pretty happy with on bass:
-Sanford and Sonny Bluebeard Fuzz
-Earthbound Audio Supercollider
-Way Huge Swollen Pickle
-Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie (B)

Heard good things about but haven't tried:
-Earthquaker Devices: Hoof
-GGG Muff Clone

Just get the new bass one. Honestly it's the best big muff for bass by absolute miles.

The toggle switch makes it a very versatile pedal as well. Pesonally I love the "dry" option. It splits the signal into clean and fuzzy even if you're going through the same amp.

I have the BlueBeard and it sounds great, they are a nightmare to get hold of though. The Fuzzrocious Green Stache is a good estimation of a Bluebeard from all i have heard, it is easier to get hold of and looks better too, if i hadnt found a bluebeard when i did i'd be rockin' a 'stache right now

When I buy a certain muff clone and I get it, I'll show it to you. It's beyond any fuzz I've seen

Haha. Thanks for that.

It's actually not a secret, just a non-talked about pedal on TB.

Says it's a 4-stage fuzz circuit which usually means it's Muff based. I'll check out the samples.

This could very well replace my MessDrive. All I know is that I need to get one soon.

I also say you should at least try the Bass Big Muff. I really like mine and I'd guess that it's the cheapest of all the options.

i like my rock and roll workshop catalyst fuzz, ts a muff clone with a 3 band post fuzz EQ, dont worry its true bypass so it doesn't affect clean signal, i wanted it for synthy fuzz tones cos i couldn't find a green russian muff (cog fanboy) for a decent australian price so this one does the job nicely

I've always wanted to try a white russian though....

I was just listening to sound clips of the catalyst fuzz tonight. I want one so bad. Does it sound as good in person as the clips? I need to pull out my Chaos Cube and start playing around with that some more.

it's better then in the clips

hmm i did some noise rock jamming the other weekend with my new AKG mic, i might be looking to sell mine soon so ill keep you in mind

This is with the bass a little off maxed, mid's at about 9-o'clock (1/4 power) trebz up at about 3/4 to give it some sizzle and the intensity at an even 12

i use the carbon copy, whammy, wah at the end as well as an electric razor/massage toy

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=7386092

but one of its many possible settings.
