Big Muff Warble

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone experience a sort of warble sound with their Big Muff pedal? I have a NYC that is fairly new. Definitely has fresh batteries. When I hit any note it sounds like the pitch and/or amplitude varies just after the attack. It only warbles once per note and it takes about one second. Its hard to explain but it is becoming irritating to me. Its like the notes go "beeyooooooooo". Something like that. Anyone hear this before?

What settings do you have your muff set at?

Isolated power source or daisy chained?

Passive bass or active?

Only effect in loop or one of many?

First effect in loop? Middle? Last?

Good questions!

It does it at all settings on the pedal with both passive and active basses. It's the only effect I use. I usually have a battery in it but I think I have used it with a wall wart as well. I can't remember honestly. I will check that out tonight at practice.

I might also go to a GC and try a new one side by side with mine to see if it does it. I think its the pedal so I might be able to have it replaced under warranty.

Yeah, no one one here has really talked about a warble in their muff sound, so you might have a dud...but definitely try the wall wart and see if you still get "that sound".

Also, does it happen with fingers and a pick? Does it matter whether you slam the strings or hit them softly?

Nah doesnt matter either way. The sound is only when the pedal is on. Ill check out the wall wart though. I think I might be out of luck on a return though... no receipt.
