Hey guys!
lets start with my current pedal set up:
Korg PT10B tuner
EBS UniChorus
ProCo Rat2
Dunlop bass Waw
EH Deluxe Memory Man
MXR M80 D.I.
first things first, I plan to get an octave pedal before comitting these other babies to a board, and I plan to do it ASAP!
The main question here would be which one.
I very much enjoy the sound of the Boss OC2 and OC3 pedals, but also like the option of the Micro POG's octave up possibility.
So my main question is how much of a difference sonicaly is the octave down between the two since I never tried the POG?
The second question is concerning the actual pedalboard!
now, I've seen the Gator pedal tote and I can get one of those fairly easily at any shop here in Croatia, but I wanted to see if there's anyone here who uses the SKB PS-55 cause I was interested in the whole power supply, or better said not having the need to buy a separate one considering the different power needed for the pedals (the gator power supply wouldnt cover it)!
any help would be great!

any help would be great! | why wouldnt the gator cover it? it does more than enough power to each pedal and it has plugs for the boss type and the proco type? only issues with it are the weird 18V ones and stuff like that I think

The OCs tend to sound more like a synth whereas the micro POG sounds more natural. You should also consider a Digitech Whammy IV -- its octave down sound is somewhere between the Bosses and the mPOG. Plus, there are a lot of fun extras, albeit with the disadvantages of having a larger footprint and needing a power supply.
On a side note, how do you deal with the DMM's headroom issues? |

I might just get the gator board and make a custom power supply for the pedals and leave it at that!
As far as the headroom with the DMM, I just set the level to the point where it almost clips when I'm playing relaxed. If I slam the bass, the sound gets gritty, but if I'm already slamming it, you can assume I dont mind that!
I have a chorus and love it to pieces, but the chorus/delay ot tremolo/delay options of the DMM are just soooo sweet I try to work my playing around suiting the pedal, and then it manages to suit me!
hope that helps you understand

For that reason I use Pedaltrain. Any changes take minutes (or less) all the while retaining a clean (ie. cables all underneath) 'playing surface'. I wouldn't use anything else but PT for this reason, plus it's lightweight.
My 2 cents on Octave, I use EBS Octabass, Ashdown Subharmonizer and just got a Micro POG. Instantly I liked the POG. Main turn-on? Fast, accurate Tracking, much better than EBS. EBS has some great sounds though and is more tweakable. For a particular gig I have, I'll see if I can keep them both on the board. Best I ever got the EBS sounding was with a compressor before it (so it would track better) and a Sansamp Paradriver after it - which allows you to fine tune so much of the signal. Still then, my Octave sound takes 3 pedals. That's $ 350 for (a) sound. Such is the life of effects. Now I'm looking for a 5/6 loop switcher.... |
