Biyang and Guitar Fetish Pedals

Sign in to disble this ad
Is it just me or has anybody noticed thet the pedals are basically the same? the Guitar Fetish just looks to be painted an re-badged

My son the drummer has recently decided to try his hand at bass and guitar and wants to build a basic board.....we have a limited budget cash wise so we are cruising the forums for good deals, and or looking at inexpensive pedals...

we came across both of these:

the samples sound decent but have read both good and bad things about both of them

anyway we have a wah already as that was his first purchase

we/he still wants an OD, Fuzz, and Chorus

i'm thinking Old School D.O.D as they are usually fairly inexpensive...that or Behringer (shudder) as they are like $30.00 bucks each...he has already nixed the idea of a multi as i was trying to get him to go with a used Zoom

so what do you guys think?

would these work to get his feet wet?

Yes, GFS is rebadged Biyang. I haven't used either, so I won't make a quality assessment, but I do know that Biyang ripped off at least one of their pedal designs from a member of DIYStompboxes without his permission, which I think is a much greater lapse than "the other B" stealing from another multinational. Danelectro makes some cool inexpensive pedals. The Cool Cat fuzz is supposed to be a clone (or similar to) the Frantone Peach Fuzz. The FAB Chorus is supposed to be surprisingly good.

Anyway, there are a lot of good inexpensive pedals out there...

I have the gfs tuner, pretty sweet for the price. REALLY REALLY bright, but whips through batteries like crazy, basically need an ac adapter for it.

Ooh! Which pedal, and which DIY'er?

The Biyang AC-8 Woody, an acoustic guitar simulator, is stolen from Mark Hammer, as confirmed here. The jerks even stole the name and the font from his schematic (zip file here).

Mark seems to not be too bothered by it, but only because he's a good guy. I wouldn't have been as magnanimous as he.

The world of cloning ethics is so murky, and there's no need to rehash it, but I find this to be a notch below one big company knocking off another, or even a boutiquer making clones of another boutiquer's stuff. When it's a big manufacturer yoinking stuff from the DIY community it just seems worse.

I can confirm that the tuner is a sweet little piece.

I got a Byang Baby Boomer Time Machine delay for Christmas.

It is actually a very nice sounding analog delay.
Switchable 600-1100 ms delay. It seems to be well made, in a bright pink MZR size box.

Just FYI, it's not an analog delay, it's digital.

Yeah, nowadays it appears that pedal manufacturers everywhere have agreed that the word "analog" just means "you should buy this because it's cool and it will give you vintage tone".

I was thinking about buying the Biyang baby boomer overdrive, as I am looking for a nice, cheap OD to compliment my rig. Anyone ever tried it?
