I have the brown dog. I have a bk3 coming and was thinking of getting an oxide to go with my xerograph.
do these pedals cover any of the same sonic terrain? should i buy the oxide? |

The B3K doesn't really cover any similar ground to the Brown Dog or Oxide. It's a mild to heavy overdrive and they are both fuzzes. It's a nice compliment to either or both.
The Chunk and the Iron Ether both do some of the same things but have significantly different flavors. Both can do very synthy gated fuzz tones. The Oxide has a wider range and can cop Brassmaster tones. The Brown Dog (as you know) has a more nasally sounding fuzz and IMO cops old school tube amp like fuzz sounds better.
I definitely dig all three pedals for what they bring to the table. |

The only real question on the Xero vs Xero Deluxe is whether you want to use it as an envelope filter or solely as a static or swept low pass filter.
For me, that's a no brainer. The Xero is phenomenal as a straight low pass filter but why not add fantastic envelope filter sounds as well? |

have a couple questions concerning the brown dog i just bought from the tb classifieds. remember i am new to effects so could be a stupid question.
when i turn the drive nob it crackles and more when its on the synthy side, is this normal? it does not do it with any other nobs.
my guitarist thinks the synthy side on the drive nob is not working properly. and make little difference if at all unless the gate is all the way to the left sloopy and the drive is all the way synth.
any thoughts? |

would the dirty pot effect the end sound other then the crackling? |

A dirty pot shouldn't affect the sound other than a crackle while turning the knob, but it could be a sign that something else is wrong or damaged. Might want to email chunk. Seems like Richard(?) is very good about answering questions.

I would get the Oxide just because it is especially awesome with the Xerograph. I went with the deluxe model because it ups the versatility and is a very very good envelope filter. Also, when set properly, the downsweep mode is worth the price of the pedal alone IMO. Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe Downsweep mode soundclip w/Oxide |
