Black Russian Small Stone discuss.

So I was at one of the little music shops in town and he had a dusty old Black Russian Small Stone. He was asking around $70. The sticker actually was marked down from $125 (I believe).

I checked around on the bay and searched here for info but nothing definitive. I saw the black version going for around $45 on evilbay. I like that it is a well loved pedal,...but can't I get a Small Stone or an MXR Phase 90 new for the same price if not cheaper?

What would make me want a Black Russian Small stone as compared to a new NYC, or Nano. Discuss.
Years of production? Decent or poopy QC and quality of components?

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to succumb to gas on this one,...should I be thinking otherwise. FWIW the shop is known to be overpriced...

You can get an nyc or nano for about $50, give or take a few bucks.. No benefit in the overpriced oversized russian version as far as I know, other than instant gratification I suppose.

Hmm; Maybe I'll offer the guy $50 bucks for it.

EDIT: I didn't catch the voltage requirements on it,...anyone?

9v with one of those smaller adapters, don't open one up the soldering and wiring is pretty bad inside!

I don't know if the black ones are exactly the same as the green ones or not like how the muffs differ, but personally I think the Sovtek green is the best version of the SS made by EHX, it is thicker sounding then any of the other SSs and has no volume drop like the vintage ones and the reissue, the speed has more range to it then the nano which I found irritating with the nano. The down side it the bypass isn't good and it as big as a tank.
