Blender?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I am new to effects n stuff. I have read about people using blenders. They also warn people about using blenders. My question is: What exactly is a blender and what do they do? Why is there a risk using blenders. I did a forum and couldnt find anything to answer my questions. Thanks.

Blenders allow you to blend your dry/clean signal with effects in the blender's loop (fuzz, distortion, etc.).

I haven't heard of any warnings against using a blender...what have you heard?

The only issue is a phase issue with some pedals.

Well I am looking at purchasing a Marshall Guv'Nor and I have heard two warnings of not processing you guvnor in a blender. People tend to want to blend because apprently the original UK guvnor drops your low end.

Ha thanks. So im guessing a blender and a guvnor dont mix? If so, when people say dont do it do they say it because it sounds bad or because it can ruin the pedals or both?

Listen to Johnny and Mary by Placebo (a cover), the bass guitar has some kind of fuzz on it blended with a clean signal.

He's specifically asking about the guv'nor though...

I've never heard of any problem with blending clean with that pedal. Who and where'd you get that info from and why were they yell-typing it?

Cant remember. Do a forum search in effects thread and type guv'nor> I cant find it. Anyways, I have a DOD FX25 which is a great pedal but when you play it you get significant volume/low end drop. So would it be wise to put that through a blender? WHats a good blender...fender blender?

I wouldn't get the Guv'nor anyway, precisely because it loses the lows. There's lots of great bass o/d's that DON'T lose the lows. Why not look into some of those.?

I blend a guvnor (old black version), no issues whatsoever. Once you mess with the controls it can sound really good I think.

Xotic has a phase inversionswitch which could be helpful in the future and more importantly it has lots of bells and whistles!

I love the Wounded Paw Blender.

Your cheapest option, which also is the fastest to get and is chock full of options is the Boss LS-2.

The Fender Blender is not a blender at all. It's an octave-up fuzz.

Blenders buffer your signal, so they could effect the tone of the pedal. If your pedal sounds bad after, say, a boss pedal (or any newer non- true bypass pedal) you don't want it in a blender, most likely.

I don't know if any of the current blender pedals out there don't buffer going into the loop. It's possible...

Something to think about/test.

Also, just my opinion, but blended signals sound weird if the clean is too clean.

Is it possible to get non true bypass pedals modded to true bypass?
