I have both the Sansamp BDDI and the Zoom b2 and I tried to mimic the Sansamp sound with the zoom Sa (sansamp) simulation (wow..the simulation of a simulation ).
Can you guess one from the other?

the bass is a MM SR4 with a brand new set of D'addario exl nickel.

+1, but you never know... we could both be wrong!

Something about the way the pedal in #2 is responding to the signal gives me the impression that it's a SansAmp.

#1 zoom
#2 sansamp
The only difference I hear is just a little less midrange on the 1st I think. My guess is based on the zoom signal having slightly less information due to it's being an algorithm but it could easily be the other way around.

As far as my computer speakers let me judge, I'd say number two has a thicker and warmer sound, most likely from SamsAmps tube emulating circuit. I think it also has a wee bit less highs, sounding a bit more 'Amplike'. SanSamps have speaker simulators inside, right?

Number1 doesn't have those 'features'. The tone is uncoloured and has open highs. Digital Pos. (just kidding :P)

Unless you messed with the settings. A Sansamp could sound like no.1 with the blend at minimum.

Cheers,
John

When I play through a SansAmp it sounds a lot more like #2.
It could sound more like #1 if you cut lows and keep shallow on gain though.

since I haven't used either processor, i'm gonna say #1 was either the sansamp or B2, and #2 was either the B2 or sansamp

My Guess...

As a b2.1u owner, I have to say #1 = Sansamp, #2 = B2.

I like the sound of #1 better, #2 sounds "thinner" to me... #1 has a bit more bottom end to it (through my crappy computer speakers)

Either way, they both sound great.

When you give us the answers, please post your settings for the B2!!!

Before I let you know the answer, the sansamp was:

blend: max
treble: 12
bass: 12
presence: 12
gain: 10/11

the Zoom was:

drive/synth SA ----of----5-----40
ZNR 1)0.9---1.0----80
Lo eq: Le 6----8----0
Hi eq HE 6----8-----6

all the rest Off

no compression on both, straight into the board

Ok, I decided to give the answer now, so that you can all have a good weekend without thinking about this great question

weell...many of you will be surprised to know that:

1) Sansamp

2) Zoom b2

you can notice that the Sansamp has a little more hiss underneat.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that the Zoom really does the job, and in a loud live situation as with my band no one will notice the difference...
I'm happy with both.

I knew you messed with the settings, but with the Zoom, to make it sound warmer! The Samsamp settings are almost the exact ones I would atribute to sample2, with a real SansAmp. I can get a similar sound with my bass and SA... so respect to B2's simulation!

Maybe it's also the MM pickup. I never played one and I think I understimated it's sound on those samples. The coils are in Parallel, right? Anyways, I'll have to pick up a MM-type bass someday!

So it looks like 9 of us fell into your little 'trap'. Well done!

Cheers,
John

Wow.

I guess I really don't like the SansAmp much anymore.

The Behringer BDI21 also does an awesome $30.00 Samsamp Bass Driver simulation.
