blues driver issues....

Sign in to disble this ad
i had a friend give me a Boss Blues Driver that he wasn't using... after he found all the pieces and put it back together.

i know very little about actually modding/fixing/whatever my own pedals... (a little bit.. but not much)

after plugging it into my board and getting everything worked out... i started running into a unique problem with it.

when certain frequencies (it seems) run through it... it turns itself on.

i figure there's GOT to be a logical/fixable reason for this... i'm just not sure where to star once i've got it taken apart.. and so far (with the exception of the Budda Phatman that i really want) this is the best fuzz/overdrive tone that i've got (even beating out the ODB-3 which... i've grown rather bored of and will be probably ditching soon)

any suggestions on how to make this thing work better?

also... if anyone has any good links to home-modding projects/directions/forums... i'm definetly interested... but am having a hard time finding any...

Please expand on "turns itself on"

First - do you have a signal the entire time

if so...

Do you mean that you only hear the effect when you play certain notes but the LED stays on the whole time indicating that the effect is on

OR

does the LED turn on only when you play certain notes?

If it's the latter - then it's possible that the LED is somehow wired intot he clipping circuit (no offense to yor friend but this can ONLY be one deliberately)

If it's the former then that just means the effect is very subtle at your current settings.

If the signal cutting in an out then something is going on that really should not be.

Weird. Does it ever turn itself off?

If not, you could just do a bypass loop and leave it on which would solve your problem without circuit diagrams, etc. Perhaps trade your ODB-3 for an LS-2..?

there is signal the whole time...
but the effect itself is... turning both on AND off (though off less than on)... the LED is correct... it indicates when the effect is on...

as it is... i have a master-looper coming in the mail at some point and will be putting it into a loop...

if i could afford a phatman... i wouldn't have to worry about it and i'd just give it back..but... oh well...

my drummer is an engineering major with some electrical experience... perhaps he can figure it out.
