I have, pretty much, all the tones I'm looking for covered, and I'm out of space, so I'm going to be done with my board and want to tie everything down and clean-up the power cables.
I don't have any heavy distortion or fuzz because it's not really my thing.
I would appreciate any suggestions on my pedal order!
Here's how I have them now:
Korg Pitchblack Tuner
Boss OC-2 Octave
MXR Bass Auto Q
MXR Bass Envelope Filter
EBS MultiComp
VT Bass
Digitech Bad Monkey
Hardwire DL-8 (for looping only)
I'm an intermediate/hobby player, so please be gentle. I'm not super sophisticated or technical.
Thanks!

| | | | I think it looks pretty sweet. I might try moving the compression to the end of the chain, to try and keep volume consistency no matter what combo of effects I am running, but there are others with *way more experience* with effects than I. I run compression in my amp's FX loop, so my compression is definitely post everything- board, pre, and amp EQ. It helps although as a compromise I had to up my ratio from 4:1 to about 6:1 or 7:1, which is a bit tight on my un-effected tone, but helps keep the lid on when I click on more than 2 or 3 pedals at the same time. |

If that were my chain I'd run it this way:
OC-2
Bad Monkey
MXR BEF
MXR Auto Q
EBS Multicomp
VT Bass
Hardwire DL-8
Korg Pitchblack
And my reasons would be: - I like the OC-2 first for tracking and because it's buffered output is good for a long chain.
- I like overdrive into filters to give a little grit when needed. OC-2 into the Bad Monkey into the MXR BEF would be a nice synthy combo.
- I'd put the Auto Q after the BEF because it's "shimmer" is cool with another envelope filter in front of it.
- I like my compression after dirt and filters and before other modulation
- I see the VT Bass as a preamp rather than an overdrive so I'd generally put it at the end.
- But putting it BEFORE the looper gives you the ability to create loops with different textures by turning the VT Bass on and off.
- I like my tuner last to mute my effects chain while tuning.
So that's how I'd set it up but the truth is that ten different members of this forum might have ten different ways they'd arrange things and for logical and understandable reasons. |

Thanks for the reasoning.

And just to prove that it all comes down to personal preference, (and why you should play with it for a while before "locking it down"), I like my tuner first so it gets the cleanest signal from my bass, and mutes everything after it. I like compression and dirt before any filters or modulation because i like how it "tightens up" my sound. I always put synths, octaves, and eq before dirt, but after my comp, for better tracking. And, you'll move things around ALOT before you're completely satisfied, and you may even sell/trade one or two for something else before it's all over. Just have fun with it.

Moving things around opens the doors up for mountains of new tones. I've regrettably sold/traded away pedals that might have been more useful if I had just played with their place in the chain more. |

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!
