Board 'mystery problem.'

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I finally got around to reorganizing my pedalboard, and I put one of those DIY patch cable kits in there. The board looks a little better now, there's some new free space, things are in more useable positions and none of it works.

I went through and checked the power, checked each pedal, checked each cable (even the factory ones still there). I gave up for the night. I'm stumped.

What would you guys try next?

I'll post the signal chain, etc. later, as I'm at work right now.

This frightens me because I am looking to do the exact same thing REAL soon, and this is what I'm afraid of.

Start by making sure your bass>amp works. It sounds dumb, but my guitard once tore his entire board apart, only to find that it was a dodgy jack socket on his axe...

Next, go through each pedal, directly from the output, each time adding one to the chain; so say your board was Bass>dist>filter>chorus>amp, first try bass>dist>amp, then dist>filter>>amp, etc until you isolate the problem.

A signal chain would definitely help, thanks

Hope that helps!

Is there a possibility that one of the cable's soldered sections has worked loose?

I'll try this when I get home, thanks.

I tested the cables by using them between bass and amp, so I know those work. I even wiggled 'em around to see if I could get one to cut out.

And I went through the board from the first pedal and pulled the cord out of each input jack and touched the tip to make sure I got the "hum" from my speakers. One didn't -the Boss DD-3- so I checked that one independently, but, no, I didn't check all of them independently, or like you mention above.

By the way, I used a solderless kit.
