On board preamp schematics (D.I Y's)

Does anyone know of any websites that have got "how to's" of building an onboard pre amp for a bass? My current bass set up is
2 x vol 1 x tone (passive). I'd quite like to add a 3 band EQ to this (Bass-Mid-Treble). Is it possible to put an active preamp sytem in a bass with passive pickups? or do i need active pickups?

It's very difficult to find a DIY bass preamp on the web; take a look on mine (sorry, it's in french), note that you need some electronics skills in order to build one...

Thanks for that, will take a closer look at your set up. I'm assuming that since there are basses that have an active/passive switch on them that i can put in an active preamp circuit with passive pickups.

The huge majority of active basses use passive pickups. There are only a few active pickups even available on the market.

Also you'll want to look in the "pickups and electronics" forum for more suggestions, since that's what you're asking about, not effects.
