Arrow Board "rant", and some opinions/advice wanted

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, a while back someone (doesn't matter who, and I forget anyways) mentioned that my board was like a warning or an example of something that no one would want to transport.

Damn right.

Betcha weren't expecting that were ya But seriously, I wouldn't. It's huge, it's heavy, it's for home recording solo doom stuff. Plain and simple. Someday it may get downsized to something like the Axe-FX and a midi board, but honestly, since its just for home recording stuff, I love that its huge and has like 6 different fuzzes

End of "rant".....

As for the opinions/advice, I'm looking into changing my mini-board after I save up some $$$$ after xmas. I've pretty much thrown my extra FX on there with the TU-2/Earwig and called it a day.

What Im looking to create out of that small board is this:

1) Headphone setup. For practice and for the GT+Fuzz setup. The GT+Fuzz volume level is perfect for just using the Earwig and I only need a small boost if Im just running bass>wig.

2) Preamp. I don't really have the living conditions to be able to crank anything up high, but I hope to one day and having a preamp setup that I can just feed into a poweramp/cab type thing tweek a little and play would be great. Also, having something modular at the start of building a full rig is a + IMHO, since I could conceivably run 2 poweramps and 4 cabs in a nice number of different wattage ranges depending on configuration.

The great thing about the TU-2>Wig setup is that I should be able to use the TU-2 to split the preamp signal to 2 poweramp/cabs. I've also considered getting a MicroBassII again, and going MB>TU but I like the 'Wig for being able to aux in a stereo signal and the way it gets mixed in which basically involves 2 volume knobs, instead of a mix which would lower the volume of the direct signal the more I mixed in the FX return on the MB.

Basically I'm thinking along these lines:

Get a VT Bass and Submarine, test them both out with the XXL. If the XXL+pre wont give me the growl I want get a Hematoma. Sell the pre that doesn't sound best to me.

I've also thought about bringing a ParaDriver/BassDriver into the mix since you can, well, mix the effect and the EQ'ed dry signal. Prolly go for the Para if I did since its darker and has more growly tone to begin with IME and all that.

Im looking for something fairly compact and 9VDC run so I believe the Tone Hammer would be out of the race.

These are the only 6 (including the MicroBass) pedals that I know of that are not rack mount and can run a poweramp. My TU-2 can handle quite the signal BTW, so I don't see a need to worry about it frying using it to connect to 2 power amps.

I guess my 2 questions on the subject are:

1) What preamps am I missing, if any?

and

2) What other pedals besides the XXL, Hematoma, and any other pedals mentioned in my profile (should be up to date-ish) would give more of a growl type tone over those that give a more trebbly breakup sound?
