| | | | Boost pedal before a VT Bass

Before I get knocked around a bit, I did do a search and couldn't find an answer to my question. I have a VT Bass pedal and love it. I use it primarily to make my LMII sound more SVT like. I am looking for some more overdrive on occasion and was wondering if anyone has tried putting a boots pedal before the pedal to see if it overdrives when turned on. It was an idea that I have, but I do not have any way of testing the theory easily.
Thanks

The BM is a bit fizzy on the top end but the VT smooths this right out. I'm trying out other options though, a Way Huge Pork Loin and an Xotic Bass BB (which is much dirtier than the RC). The Pork Loin has arrived, it's very smooth and I want something with a bit more growl so have ordered the BB which should get here next week!
I think a subtle overdrive or dirty boost is what you're looking for rather than just a clean volume boost, IMHO. The Barber LTD SR is another good option.

Thats what it's there for.

Here is an idea: two VT basses maybe?
One as toneshaper (SVT-modelling in the OPs case) and one as a overdrive/boost.
If this pedal is so good as everyone claims it is it sure must be worth having two of them. |

Alhough you can get the RC to drive a bit.

| | | | Maybe I should change my sig. Right now, the only pedals I have are the VT bass and a tuner pedal. I am liking the tube screamer idea though. I may have to drop into a store and check that one out.

Oh and I see you're a P-Bass man, a P with a TS + VT work really well together! |

| | | | Putting that '51 single coil P in the neck position of my bass was the best thing I ever did. I am going to go check out the tube screamer + VT setup on Wednesday. Thanks for all the help guys.

I run a Mk.4.23 clean boost in front of a Fulltone OCD, and it really puts the zing in the OCD. The extra gain translates to extra dirt, almost fuzz-like. But the OCD is germanium based, so that may be part of it.

This is what I generally run in front of my VT. I leave the BD on the clean boost ("comp cut") & throw on the (dirty) boost when I need some extra volume + dirt. The clean channel on the BD is just great with the VT; pushes it almost like a tube. (I should say, too, that I'm playing through an ampeg b100r ss, so without the VT that grittiness would be unobtainable in the above settings.) |

Im using both a Crowther Hotcake (bass and Bluesberry modes) with the presence at max and the drive just a breakup for a nice clanky OD, and a Devi Dark Boost for a warmer, deeper darker OD.
Both sound much 'better' going into the VTbass than alone (its subjective, but to me the VT bass makes both the od's sound like different overdriven tube amps)

That way I can use it as a boost - and as a tone shaper.
No matter what settings I set on the EQ, or volume, it seems to work well with the VT. But be warned, the VT will make even the most ****** and crappy tones work. It's a great pedal, I really should have bought one sooner! |

| | | | I was messing around today with some pedals and tried the Boss SD1. I wasn't running it through anything special. Just a Geddy Lee into a solid state amp. I was pretty impressed with it. I also messed with the TS9. I am going back later this week to try them out with my rig.
