Bootsys Red Wah pedal, what is it?

Sign in to disble this ad
I´m not so experienced with wah pedals but I know all the standards out there. This wah that bootsy use caught me eye. According to morleys homepage Bootsy is a morley artist, maybe it is an old morley pedal...or I don´t know

I'm not seeing the link... but it might be a Snarling Dogs Bootzilla pedal that you are thinking of. It's in the shape of a foot.

If you are talking about the pedal he is rocking back and forth at the beginning of the video, that's a Digitech Whammy.

It doesn´t look like that to me. Maybe he uses an older version...As you can see there is a big red thick plate he stomping on which is acctually bigger than the pedal itself. Maybe that is just his shoe or he has modded it with a big fat red plate.

No, there's no extra plate, but he is wearing shoes with very funky soles that have red "pillars" in them, probably with springs or gel or something. The pedal is a Whammy.

Yeah, those are his shoes. One of the Nike brand of space boots I believe.

Towards the end it sounds like he's running the Whammy an octave down and putting it through an envelope filter, and then mixing it with the original clean sound.

Wow this video is really worth studying. It's a really amazing tone that he gets, and I think Charm Bracelet is pretty close to describing it, but I'm not sure if we've nailed it yet. I don't think the octave down is all whammy, because it doesn't sound like the whammy Oct-Down tone to me; it sounds more like the tone of the Ampeg Sub-Blaster that you can see at his feet. You can also see the DOD FX25 Env Filter and a Turbo Rat, but I don't think the rat was used in the tone that we hear in the video. At the very end of the video he's soloing up high, but it sounds to me like it's even higher than he's playing, so he might be using the whammy in some up mode to do his solos.

I also noticed a pink pedal, that seems to be an older DOD. Maybe someone has a deeper knowledge of older DOD pedals than I do, but isn't that the Thrashmaster distortion pedal? I thought even guitar players said those have no low end. Well, he's Bootsy; he knows what he's doing. Or maybe it's not that pedal.

That is a Digitech Whammy. The original model to be specific - the WH-1.

Great video clip. I hope this shows up as an "extra" on the future DVD release of Super Bad. I'd love to see it (and hear it) in my home theater. It's a shame that they probably shot hours of footage in the studio, but the clip is very short.
