My classes were canceled yesterday afternoon due to extremely poor weather conditions so I hiked over to my friend's place and built a talkbox. We cannibalized his 'Singalodeon' karaoke machine and eventually decided that we were best off leaving all of the different components together as we didn't really understand the signal path. We ended up just taking out the speakers and putting them in a 8"x6"x3" Radioshack project enclosure, and baffled as best we could with duct tape. Then we drilled a whole through the top of the box for the plastic tube.
All in all it turned out pretty well. We made a couple of mistakes, but nothing catastrophic (there was a failed attempt to use a used kitty litter container as the enclosure, etc).
The first pic is the enclosure and circuit boards, mostly finished.
The second is the finished project, put back in the original karaoke machine enclosure.
I can't wait for to try it with my bass.
Oh, and it has 1/4" and RCA inputs as well as a tape deck.
