Boss Bass Limiter

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought an old CE-2B and am in love with it. It is wonderful and was exactly what I was looking for. I have this forum to thank for pointing me towards it.

I am now looking at a comp/limiter. I found an old LM-2B for cheap that I can purchase. How does this compare to the LMB-3?

My dream would be to buy a Diamond Bass Comp (already own the guitar version as am primarily a guitarist) for my 5-string, active PU bass, but I don't play bass nearly enough in bands to warrant that purchase... Plus, the wallwart is a bit of a putoff.

I have the LM-2B and think it works as it should. I've never tried the LMB-3 for comparision tho.

You should just get it and then grab the rest of the BOSS brown pedals and have the full set like me

The only significant difference is that the "2" does not have a ratio control, its ratio is fixed. If you like the ratio, no biggie. It's conceivable that the components in the "2" might be better-quality, but no promise there.

Do you know this firsthand, bongo? I'm quite aware of the difference in knobs and that one pedal is brown and one is blue The CEB-3 has a knob that's a highpass filter but a lot of dudes prefer the CE-2B. More or less features does not a better pedal make!

I don't care about components inasmuch as saying better quality components equals better sound. I care more about practically, in the real studio/gigging world, which is easier to dial in, which enhances your tone and helps you sit in the mix better, etc etc. I'm pretty sure the LMB-3 would do the job, but if the 2 is better then why wouldn't I get that? Us gearheads do want something more than just "does the job", you know!

I am looking for something that's always on and isn't necessarily noticeable until you shut it off, if I can use the old cliche.

I've never tried the LM-2B so I have no opinion on its sound. But I played the LMB-3 for years and I can tell you that I found the ratio control to be essential.

It's obvious by looking at pictures of the two pedals.
