Boss BF3 Guitar input

Well here I was placing a newly added BBE Opto Comp onto my pedal board (Per Bongos recommendations, $69 brand new) and when I was all done I went through the regular paces of testing each pedal for proper functionality. When I reached for the BF3 flanger I noticed to my surprise a clearer and pronounced flanging sound coming from my speaker. "Wow! This new opto comp pedal makes my flanger sound really, really good." I thought to my self. I played around with it for about an hour before I realized that I had plugged into the guitar input of the pedal. What a great mistake on my behalf because I would have never opted to bypass the bass input for the guitar input.

Have any of you that have the BF-3 tried the guitar input? And if so what are your thoughts? Any of you that have the BF-3 and are using the bass input only I suggest trying this out as I have found it to be quite a nice surprise.

I've heard people mention this before. I prefered the guitar input on the AW-3 as well.

Boss isn't very good at designing bass inputs.

It's just a trend I've noticed on TB: most of us have tended to prefer the guitar inputs. Both inputs work fine on bass, but the pedals that have those "Bass" inputs provide a different frequency response that is supposed to be more to a bass player's liking.

If most people still prefer to use the guitar input, then Boss must not have talked to enough of us in the design process.

I found this on the Boss website.

Delay Time
0.3 mS to 14.4 ms (GUITAR IN), 0.3 ms to 6.3 ms (BASS IN)

This is the only difference that they list.

I only use the guitar input on my BF-3, much more clarity I find.

Going back to your original post, have you found the comp to be much of an improvement, or is it purely the accidental use of the 'guitar in' that has helped your flange sound?

On another note, I use a BF-2. It only has a guitar in. Sounds great Im always looking for improvements though

Glad you asked. I never thought of using a compressor in the past due to my setup, playing style, and choice of eq and effects, however I found that after buying a Line 6 Lowdown Studio 110 with the optical compressor for home practice, I would've liked to even out my chorused slapped notes on my main rehearsal/gigging rig.

The comp I feel has helped all of my effects especially flange and chorus, even out with the tone I want. It is very subtle however I can really tell the difference.

BTW.....I have been looking at some vintage MIJ BF2's on eBay and found them to be going for about $80. The "Metal screw" ones. I think I will snatch one up seeing as how they have a great rep with us bassists.
