Boss CE-2

Sign in to disble this ad
So i picked up a Boss CE-2 from my neighbor for $20. Thing is, through my bass is has very little effect. Even when on full... Does that the pedal have an issue? If so How could I fix that?

Also, The output jack is a LITTLE loose. It goes in snug, but it doesnt feel like its snug enough. Not sure if thats whats causing it, but Its hard to explain. Its not loose enough to fall out, but its not a tight fit, like it normally feels like it should when you plug in. Also he (my neighbor) bought it back in the 80's, so I am the second person to have this pedal. And supposedly he didn't play it much, if at all.

Any help or Info is appreciated :3

First off, amazing price! Especially if it's an older Long-dash model BOSS CE-2 LONG DASH photo, picture, image on Use.com
The CE-2 on the more common short-dash models is ONLY under the US in Chorus rather than under the RUS in Chorus on the more rare long-dash model.

Also, how is it being powered? This pedal is ACA (12v) the more current ones are PSA (9v.) If powering through a muti-effect power source (like a Voodoo PP2+) you'll need to daisy chain it through a single output (using a daisy chain cable) with some more current Boss pedals (PSA) to get it to work properly OR use it in a 12v output of the PP2+. Or you can daisy chain it from a few Boss pedals which accommodate it (like a TU-2, as NS-2, or a LS-2 if you have one.) If you are using a single wall-wart to power it it MUST be the older Boss ASA type for it to work properly.

If battery powered have you put a new battery in? Results?

Is the on/off light bright when its on?

This chorus should sound REALLY GREAT with your bass. If none of these solutions fix it you may need to bring it in for repair.

Its a MIT, Green label. So i dont believe it is the Long dash. But still a killer price! I tried 3 battery's and none of them worked. I had an old Boss Drum pad, and used that and plugged it in (without battery) and it made a really BAD sound. Unplugged it right away. But We are going to see if its loosing power somewhere inside or if something is not soddered or connected right. But the only DC connector (or ac or w.e it is) is the one from the boss DP. Ill be buying a new one because ive gotten 3 pedals in the last 2 days and i dont want to waste Batterys! But I can hear the effects but its VERy faint. Light is on when it turns on.

Make sure you use the correct adapter with the correct pedals. Newer BOSS (mid '90s-present) pedals use a PSA adapter while older pedals use the ACA adapter, and using the incorrect adapter will negatively affect the sound the pedal produces. I'm reading up on the ACA pedals as I just got an old CE-3 and OC-2 (the label that says "Octaver" instead of "Octave") on eBay. I'm very excited for them to arrive!

I have two of these, a green label and a black label. They sound about the same to me, but I would say they're my favorite chorus for bass.

You could try adjusting the internal volume pot and see if that helps.... here's a link to what it looks like

Forgot to say, $20 is a steal and a half! I think I paid $40 for my MIT version, maybe 50-60 for the MIJ. I check them out on ebay and smile when I see what they go for now

->

if planning on keeping the pedal? to sound decent and be able to use current AC adapter the pedal will have to be modified...there are many resources on the net on how to do this...good-luck.

You might not like the CE-3; I had one and really didn't like it. I do love the CE-2's, though.

Alright so im uplaoding a video tyo youtube right now. SO you guys can hear it and maybe diagnose it better? but i found if i do

Bass>Chorus>Amp it isn't very loud and has barley any effect. (especially through my Ampeg "Effects loop" It muffles it REALLY badly.)

But when i go
Bass>Chorus>DD7>amp or Bass>DD7>Chorus>Amp. The effect seems to work... Louder. But not better. Very weird. Anyways thanks you guys for helping me out!

Also. Found out the Charger we have is a PSA. Im going to grab a ACA soon (maybe 2mrw when i pick up my patch cables)

Video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_VuKgOV8Hc

Also forgot to put in the original post. This pedal is CLEAN. only one mark on it ^.^
