Boss cs-3

Sign in to disble this ad
Im looking to buy a compressor pedal but I dont want to shell out $200 for the Markbass Compressore. I was looking into the Boss cs-3 since I heard it does well with bass....is this true? Ill probably be running it through my Fender Rumble 350...Any suggestions?

Better choices: DOD Milkbox, Boss LMB-3, BBE OptoStomp. The CS-3 cuts the low end. It can be modded for better low end though, if you are decent at soldering.

Ok Mr Bongo...Since the milkbox is no longer in production...which of the last two would you recommend. Ive read some of your past posts and you seem pretty high on the LMB-3. Im just trying to tear away from my GT-6B and just use the pedals Ill actually need, hence the research for compressors. What I plan to use eventually is this

AMP- Fender Rumble 350
*Sansamp bass driver DI
Compressor (depends on which)
Wah- Morley Mark Tremonti power wah boost (on occasion)
Dist- EH bass big muff Pi (on occasion)

Anything else I should have in here that I lack or dont need? I read your take on the GT-6b and I agree...I think I have too much in it to actually use.

The Milkbox can be found on the used market for cheap, every day of the year. Between the 3 I mentioned, it's up to personal taste only.

LOL...its hard to tell unless I get all three of them you know. These days I dont have that kind of money unless I spend a ba-jillion on gas. What is YOUR preference? Either way...you gave me some ideas...thanks.

I have the Humphrey modded CS-3. It's OK but I just bought a VFE White Horse (on its way) to try out because I was looking for something that does occasional OD without having a dedicated pedal for it.

I'm no expert in compressors like Bongo is, but the impression I get from the CS-3 is that it's pretty transparent and does a decent job evening the levels out. But it feels a little too subtle to my ears.

the LMB-3 seems to do a smiley face in the frequencies (mid scoop)

It does, only IF you use the "enhance" knob.

I have a CS-3 with the Monte Allums Opto Plus mod. I wasn't crazy about what it did with bass alone. I felt it still cut the lows and is pretty heavy handed with squashing the signal. I have to admit I didn't spend a lot of time trying to dial it in, my BBE Opto Stomp pretty much does what I want with two knobs.

I like this mod for guitars and other signals, just wasn't that impressed with bass alone. I plan on experimenting in the future, so my opinion may change. So many toys, so little time...
