Boss DS-1 Mods: Who's Done Em? What did you like?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently got my hands on a DS-1 for a second time, and I want to make it more bass-friendly (or guitar-friendly, for that matter). I know there's tons of popular mods out there, and I'm hoping you can tell me what you've done or heard. Ideally, I'd like to see a fairly complete list of mods so I (and anybody else who mods em in the future) can choose which setup they like best.

here you go. i dont remember all the settings, but i remember i tried to make them about even. the left and right one is good if you have headphones, you can switch back and forth really fast.

clips played DI from an OLP stingray, tone up, bridge side halfway down. should be a clean clip in my songs somewhere.

I didn't do this mod (one of the few I haven't done), but I picked up a JHS Pedals Lexi Drive and I love it for my bass. It has three different diode controls for different gain types. I used it as a low grit boost for my VT bass and it rocks when I start digging into it.

Nice clip! That does in fact sound like a DS-1 but much, much richer.

But I already have a DS-1 that I picked up for $20, and I want to invest about another buck in parts The idea is to get amazing results as cheaply as possible!

it does exactly what you want.. fixes all the problems with the DS-1. no more tin sound, tone knob is more usable. better sweep on the gain control, sounds more realistic.

ive also been told that if you play more diodes in the chain (somewhere, i think they said near the output. ask your resident DIY pedal geek) that it adds more harmonic content and makes it sound "fatter" could be better for bass.

I did the mod described by bassjunkie730 here in posts 16 and 18. Sound clip is in post 18. I personally like it better than the keeley mod.

Boss DS-1 modded for bass CLIP included.

I did a modification of the Keeley mod. I still need to change out a diode or two.

Yeah my mod rulez

I'm going to go to my studio tonight

you guys have inspired me to record some clips

So you'll get the sound of it direct through a tube DI

AND through a mic'ed cab (mic'ed with an RE-20 and/or a CAD m179)

of course P-bass with Chromes is the standard

plus I'll throw in some EBS Octave for fun.

Doom doom doom here I come.

I think i'm going to try the AMZ-FX 2-resistor fat mod tonight. Looks like a good way to get my feet wet.

You can find it here... http://www.muzique.com/news/fat-mod-for-the-boss-ds-1/
