Thumbs up boss ds-1 stock

tried one a few days back and i liked it quite a bit with my sansamp vt. it sounded pretty nice, had to roll down the tone knob on it to keep the low end but it sounded like it retained quite a bit with the tone knob at 9oc through the amp i had at that time.
pretty neat distortion i must say, somehow i never heard about it from anyone before. but its pretty cheap at 40$ i might just get one sometime!

I was surprised myself playing it stock. It's a good circuit but has some really crap components on it. I switched out the bad caps and changed the tone stack on mine (it's uses the same tone stack as the Big Muff so you get scooped mids). Sounds much better this way and I still haven't done the diode mods yet.

Al Cisneros loves the DS-1, and I love hearing him use it.

I tried using a DS-1 in my old band, but every time I kicked it on, no matter how much I cranked the volume, I was GONE from the mix. It was like I wasn't even there. It sounded good by itself (really nasty and snarley) but there was WAY too much low-end drop for me to use it. I've heard a few bass-oriented mods for the DS-1 that sound pretty cool, though.

a DS-1 + an OC-2 = good times.
