This free patch editor for the GT-10B might help visualize the workings of it.

This may be the lamest piece of advice ever, but: study the user manual. thoroughly.

If you want be able to hear subtle differences and make changes to the patches to create your own sounds you need to know where all the options are on this processor.

Yes. Read the manual. I pretty much read it like 50 times in PDF format before even deciding to buy one.

Also, run thru a lot of the presets and EZTones first. Some are crap (nothings perfect), but there are some that will give you some idea as to how far the unit on its own can go.

Consider getting either an EXP or the dual footswitchs later. I knew that I wanted 2 exps, and had an EXP/Volume at my disposal, but I'd definitely consider getting the 2 FSs if the right situation came up.

EDIT: @ gumtown: is that editor via MIDI only? Have you thought about a USB version?

It does use the USB port, so long as the Boss GT-10B USB driver is installed, and the setting on the GT-10B SYSTEM > USB driver Mode is set to 'advanced'.

Sweet. Any clue as to where to get the driver for Ubuntu/Debian/Linux?

I did find this via google: http://www.nabble.com/Boss-GT-10-td17674980.html

Not sure about the Linux driver part, i know there was going to be a GT-10 addition to ALSA in version 1.18???, duno if that included the 10B.
I use an external midi adapter on Linux (Edirol UA20) which works fine.

I just run virtualbox on my Ubuntu machine, and then run FXFloorboard from there. Works like a dream.

Dan,
I've been checking out your samples of the 10B and was wondering if you could post some of the distortions by themselves and maybe some of the amp models? Great clips by the way.
Take Care,
Brent

Qurious about the Virtual Box thing, does the midi work via the USB? are you using the Windows drivers with that?

Maybe post some of your GT-10B patches, interested to see what patches other GT-10B users have.
Also looking for patches to add to FxFloorBoard editor too, i any one got some to share with the GT-10B world.

Slowly working on it, but that might be the next thing on my list to do.

my 2 basic GT-10B patches are posted here: The Post ALL of Your settings thread
The only diff is that one patch is forward delay, and one is reverse. Since the delay "resets" when you switch types, unlike the modulation switching I have going on I figured I might as well just split the patches that way. I just stick it in manual mode and play

Here's the distortion samples. The preamp section is a LOT more complex than the drive/tone of the OD/DS thang, and is harder to really demo without some serious planning IMHO.
