Boss LM-2B Bass Limiter

Sign in to disble this ad
A friend of mine loaned me his LM-2B. I had read mixed reviews about this particular limiter, and I have been hesitant to buy boss products after a negative experience with a stompbox years ago.

I have been using a B1x for compression/limiting for the past few years. I did not really see the limitations of this until I hooked up the LM-2B.

Wow. What a difference. It is just what I am looking for. It doesn't change my tone, it doesn't buzz or click, it doesn't pull in a strange Hindi speaking radio station (my MXR SUPER COMP does this when hooked up to my Jazz... but on my strat it doesn't. I don't know why).

So first impression: I like it. Alot. The "enhance" knob doesn't really do anything for me... it scoops the mids... but otherwise I leave it in the "off" position.

So... where should I put this in my signal chain for best results. Right now I have it:

Bass--->Tu-2 Tuner--->Lm-2B--->Dunlop Bass Wah--->Sansamp BDDI---> to Amplifier (Peavey Tour 450)

Any suggestions, experiences, and so on would be great.

Thanks

I'd go Wah - LM-2B - TU-2 THEN sansamp, if you're using the last item's DI.

If not, wah-LM-b2-sansamp - TU-2 - amp.

In both scenarios, the wah's peakiness is controls by the limiter, which also won't be amplifying the inherent noise floor of the tuner.

the LM-2B is a great pedal, i'm currently using one for light compression/sustain...

my chain goes bass --> Boss BD-2 --> Boss LM-2B --> rig

the Blues Driver (BD-2) tends to cut a little bit of low end, so running the Limiter after the distortion fattens the sound a bit, enhances the low end that the BD-2 cuts down. have fun with it, man!

There are some suggestions for where to put it in the chain in my FAQ. Short version: put it after any part of the chain that has peaks that need limiting.

^^^ yupp, or if you ever pick up a pedal that cuts bass or drops volume, the LM-2B does a great job of bringing any cut frequencies or volume drops BACK up to the output volume...

you sure do like to push that FAQ link, dont ya man? (btw, that link helped me out ALOT in the past)

I think I am going to move it around the board later this weekend... but I am very happy with the results with it limiting the signal coming right out the bass.

I agree with Bongo's assessment (in his reviews) of the pedal: Great, but the "Enhance" knob really is a "Suck" knob. I'll keep playing with it though.

The next problem: My homemade pedal board is too small. Guess I'll have to back to Home Depot.
