Question BOSS LS-2, Low and High Gain, and blending

Sign in to disble this ad
Firstly, let me admit something: In the past I have been very anti-effects. Now, after purchasing a Wah and a Sansamp... the GAS just gets worse.

I have an effect chain that I am happy with Passive Bass--> Boss Tu-2 Tuner---> MXR Super Comp---> Dunlop Bass Wah---> SansAmp BDDI---> Low Gain Input on Amp.

It sounds great, but I miss the tone I got by just plugging direct into the high gain input on my amp (Peavey Tour 450).

My questions are:

1) Could I use a Boss LS-2 to switch my bass between a channel that has the effects on the low gain AND a channel that has no effects and is plugged into the high gain. Is this bad for the amp? Is there a better way to do it?

2) I understand that the LS-2 can blend channels A and B together. Does anyone use both the high gain and low gain inputs at the same time? The idea of blending a "wet" and "dry" signal appeals to me. Again, is using both low gain and high gain inputs bad for the amp?

3) When will the GAS end?

If you use the LS-2, and like it, please post your signal chain in addition to your comments and suggestions.

<<Moderator: This is a mix of different topics, if I mis-posted this in the wrong forum, my apologies>>

1) Sort of... but it's not ideal. The level controls, according to the block diagram in the manual, come after the return jacks, meaning you can't use them to control the level being output from the send jacks. So, you can switch between the two inputs on your amplifier, but you won't be able to control the levels of each channel using the LS-2.

Is it bad for the amp? Well, that very much depends on what amp you're talking about as they all do the same thing in different ways. Have you even tried plugging two signals in at a time to see if it works? Sometimes the amp is designed so that it only accepts one input signal even if two jacks are plugged in.

2) See above!

3) When you meet Mr. Reaper!
