Boss md-2 mega distortion

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone ever tried out these pedals on bass? I know that the ds-1, mt-2, and the sd-1 are the boss distortion pedals commonly used on bass, but has anyone tried the md-2? the boss website has only one sound sample of the md-2 on bass and it does seem to have a nice grinding sound on bass. other than that, has anyone here experienced the boss md-2 mega distortion on bass?

I tried to buy one used last year, based on that one clip on the Boss site. The kid was kinda hard to get hold of, and kept cancelling appointments, and ultimately never called back....I figured it wasn't worth it and gave up.
Now I'm curious again...

At the time I didn't mind because I received a Battering Ram which is great for bass. But I am curious, so will get it off her this weekend, the pedal that is .

I kind of imagine that is will have the same kind of hiss issues which I don't like about the ODB-3.

Yeah...I probably would of guessed that it would had the same hissing issue as the boss odb-3. but it probably would sound a little different compared to the boss odb-3.

So it's really suitable for bass solos, huh. and it disappears in the band mix. I would of thought at certain settings, it would sound great in the band mix. thanks for letting me know.

Hahaha, I forgot about this pedal!!! My second pedal of all time, it is very harsh and gives a high distortion high gain overdrive. Like a rat pedal with tweaking, but not as soft as a rat. It's a cool pedal if you want a lot of head room for distortion, it was just way too much for me man, I traded it in or sold it or something. A blues driver or rat is a better bet man. If you're a boss guy the blues driver is really kick ass on bass. But that mega distortion has a lot of bass with that bass knob(sounded like a 100hz knob).

I was informed that this pedal has some heavy lows. so I figure that it might work well on bass. but I guess that depends on how you set the pedal. and I have heard that the blues driver sounded pretty cool on bass. I do know that some guitar work well on bass and I did assume that the boss md-2 mega distortion might be one of those pedals. that's why I asked if anyone has ever tried that pedal on bass. cause I like to know if it does work well on bass. well thanks for the info.

I tried all kinds of settings with mine, but just couldn't find a setting that didn't get lost.
The demo on the boss site sounds great, but as with the odb3, perhaps it would shine better through an all valve amp

I have one and find it pretty much useless for any band situation...maybe a solo I guess. It has tons of gain and distortion and the bass knob helps with the low end loss. I use it after my boss od-20 with the "heavy octave" turned up on the od-20 and the md-2 running a good bit of distortion. That combo gives me a pretty cool double octave distorted sound with tons of bottom end, just gets really harsh and I have to eq that out at the amp.

I agree, it seemed too much in any setting, the blues driver can get you a lot of gain, don't see why you'd need more.
