Boss me-20b help?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Everyone,

I'm having trouble getting used to my Boss ME-20b. I've read the manual a bunch of times and messed around with it but still have a few questions. I guess the biggest one is in regards to bypassing effects.

If I have a bank of effects that I saved (say it's Bank 1), is there any way to use those effects temporarily and then switch it into bypass? For example, my first patch (effect 1, bank 1) is an Octave effect that I only want to use for part of one of my bass solos. In order to access that effect from a clean sound with NO effects, what mode do I have to be in? How would I access that? To go back to a clean sound, how would I do that?

No matter what I do, it seems like I can't quite figure it out. Maybe the answer is stupidly simple, please don't rip me apart Thanks!

If u want an easy good sounding octaver just press the ez edit button and then press the first pedal (The SFX one) use the first knob to select sounds the last two sounds number 9,10 which appear on the digital screen, 9 is a less harse octaver and 10 is harsher. To turn off just press the SFX pedal so the led light goes off. To me this is what ur asking other wise could u explain it a bit simpler?

I actually think I'm going to sell this now... it does a bit too much for me (and I need to pay some bills). Mods, can you please close this? Thanks for the reply Matt!

If you haven't sold it already, what you need to do is set a "regular" patch as either the second or third of the three possible, that was you can switch from your effect to your regular tone

I'm just beginning to work with my ME-20b too. Yes, I've read the manual. I still don't understand the difference between EZ-Edit and Write? Does EZ-Edit just allow you to edit the effect & settings the way you want and then you use the Write button to store it?

Yes, that's exactly it. Although you don't have to use EZ-Edit and then Write, if you have an effect you like without EZ-Edit you can save that through Write

Thanks Steven. I'm still not clear on editing and saving more than one effect and saving it together. For instance, if I edited the octaver and then wanted to add/edit say, some overdrive on it, how do I keep the octaver settings while editing the overdrive and then save?

EZ-Edit is basically some pre-set sounds that Boss has put on the pedal. They sound good, but they may not be exactly what you want. You can get more specific effects by not using the EZ-Edit option, but by just using the pedal in it's normal mode.

Write is simply the way you save a sound. When you have a sound that you like currently on your pedal, you push write, select where you want that sound, and then push write twice, and it will be saved.

Hope that helps some people out. It is a little complicated at the start, but if you play around with it you'll figure it out

I'm a little confused here. Are you wanting to have an octaver on say pedal 1 and an overdrive on say pedal 2? Or are you wanting an overdrive/octave effect on one pedal?

Yeah, but how do you combine two effects to store as one patch?

Alright, so in normal mode, you hit the SFX pedal and turn the selector knob until you are at 5, which is the Octave effect. Make sure the light in the SFX column (at the top of the pedal is lit up, and use the knobs to adjust the effect until it is to your liking.

Now, with the octave pedal still on, hit the COMP pedal. Now hit the button in the COMP/DRIVE column (this is directly below the light for the SFX column) so that you can edit the overdrive. Turn the selector knob to number 2, which is overdrive. Again, use the knobs to adjust the effect to your liking.

After this, you should have the effect your looking for. To save this in a patch, hit write, use the up and down arrows to get to the bank you want, and hit the pedal where you want to save the sound. Now hit write again.

And that's how you do it! (hopefully if I got that all right and made it clear enough)
