BOSS ME-50 vs GT-6 b

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all.I'm new to the whole effect thing and i'm going to buy a pedalboard.I'm thinking the Boss Me-50b or the gt-6 b.I noticed that the gt-6b is multiple effects processor machine whereas the me-50b isn't.It's just a bass multiple effects pedalboard. So what's the difference and what do you suggest.
Thanks a lot

I chose the ME-50B over the GT-6B because I only planned on using it live (I had decided on giving up the whole pedal board thing), and had no interest in modeling. I also have basses and amps I'm happy with, so all I really wanted was a decent tuner, volume pedal, compression and some effects in the few instances I want them. I've been happy enough with it for 3 years now, but I've been buying pedals over the last few months because in the end, I like doing the pedal board thing. My friend got the GT-6B because he's the ultimate tweaker; he also does home recording so it fit him better. The bad thing about his is his OCD; he must have called me a hundred times asking stuff about patches and settings. I have to admit that I was afraid that getting a GT-6B was going to open the door for several hundred more calls.....

if you want the effects more than amp modelling, imo get the me50b. the gt6b has many bells and whistles, and is more tweakable than the me50b.
So it depends on whether you want more of a plug and play unit or you really want to tweak your sound.

GT 6b all the way. Effects are just as good as the ME 50b and you can do a lot more with it. A couple of months ago I might have said the ME 50 was worth it if you just wanted something a little cheaper and simpler, but now that their charging $250 for a new GT there's no reason not to go for it.

ME 50B

I just got the ME 50B a few weeks ago, and I really dig it. I considered the GT 6B, but I found the ME 50 to have most of what I needed. I wasn't interested in the amp modeling, so I feel I made the right choice. I still though feel like I need a good compressor though. The onboard compression is ok, but I feel it doesn't have all the parameters that I need. Also, I have a Beringer foot switch that I feel is crucial. In memmory mode it switches banks without me having to bend over and push a button on the pedal itself.

when I first ventured into the effects adventure I looked in on the ME-50B and the GT-6B.

the effects are about the same (allthough the GT-6B allows for more combinations), but the GT-6B has the amp modelling.

What finally totally put me of the ME-50 is the fact that you can't tweak the controls while playing (or change effects other than pushing the 3 different pedals), you get digital hick-ups if you do. So because I play I kind of music where effects are constantly changed and tweaked mid song (it's a soundscape thingy), I couldn't find the ME-50B useful. The GT-6B did not have this problem and you can tweak and change all you want without hick-ups.

I have to admit though, that in the end, I just went for seperate effects on a pedalboard. it seemed cheaper back then, and more fun. Now I know it's a lot more fun, terribly addictive even, but definately not cheaper

I agree with Pizz as follows;

1. The Gt-6b is overkill for me. I don't want amp modelling or most of the bells and whistles

2. Compression for me is essential and I miss the additional parameters.

3. The Quality of the effects are adequate

4. An external foot switch is essential. The BOSS solutions is to run two separate foot switches through an adapter. I use a Behringer double foot switch.

That said, the ME-50b does it all in one box. The convenience and ease of use is important to me.

I'm eyeing the GT-10B because it has a built in XLR out which I really miss in ME-50

I bought a GT-6B in December and haven't stopped using it since...some of my likes:

1. Compressor: 2 of them are not useful. The two that are are wonderful and easily dialed in. Best of all they are "musical"

2. The Ampeg model: Is sweet sounding, and when you turn up the gain and turn the level down...well, you guys know what should happen and it does...think Noel's fuzz line on Dolly Dagger.

3. The Effects: Chorus (Particularly the 2x2 using the stereo outs), "Muff Fuzz", Reverb & Delay (I'm still stumped at how to get the tap tempo working) and the Octave modes track really well and can be configured to work similar to a Whammy pedal...cool stuff.

Also I am a hardcore knob tweaker. This thing is paradise!!!
Everything in here can be messed with.

Finally it has not only stereo amp outputs but stereo XLR as well...In addition to MIDI and Digital outs too!!!

Dislikes:
All the presets except "Geddy". Other than that...all of them.

The B15 model. If your sound needs this amp model, don't get the GT-6B. It fuzzes out with the gain on 3.

The looper could have more time but I own and use a Jamman. Best 300 I ever spent was on that Digitech unit, so i didnt buy the Boss for looping. However, If your only looping is done in short live bursts via DL-4, Headrush and such you could find it useful...

And lastly, no USB out. It is nice to have midi though...

Overall a great unit...
It'll hold off my GT-10B GAS for a while...

And I only paid 250...New!!!

I gots an ME-50b and I think it will remain a part of my pedalboard for a while. I've augmented it with a Micro QTron and a HOG, as those were the effects I most wanted that I didn't like/couldn't get on the Boss. But now I have a pretty good board with decent effects all the way around. The only issue is that if you plan to use it w/out patches, the phaser/ flanger have a tendency to get loud on you. If you use patches, however, you get a little delay when you switch from one to another (maddening, and makes recording take a little longer). My amp has a compressor that I have set as a rather hard limiter to make my power jump stay a power boost.

6b is probably more versatile, with more tweakability, and as good of sound, but I've found that I like playing with individual effects than building each individual complex sound one after another. ME50b is great for that.

Truly maddening, it's so annoying not being able to use the patches properly.

Now I don't use the patches hardly but then you get less live versatility, which is pretty gay...

I'm eying up that ME-10b... but I wonder if it still has the patch problem =(
