Boss ME 50B/ME 20B

I know there is a lot of threads on this already, and I'll catch some harsh comments, but I don't care. - I've been playing with a Digitech BP200 for the past 5 years. For the price and features, and for it being my first pedal it did everything I needed it to. But here lately I've been wanting to upgrade my sound. Not only effects - Chorus, Volume swells, Wahs, Distortions - but mainly my clean sound. To me it sounds like it doesn't cut through the mix anymore, so I'm wanting to upgrade. From reading about the two, they both have EQ features I like, the 50B having a Mid scoop, and the 20B having a bass enhancer, low, and high-mid EQing. So out of the two, I was wondering which has the cleanist tone. I play metal/hard rock, so the thickest, fattest tone would be best. If I could get anything as close as the isolated bass track below I'll be Far Beyond (Driven) happy. Thanks to whoever reads, and/or comments.

Here is a link to a few tunes I recorded with an ME50B a few years back. They are a little bit skewed because I recorded them into a POD amp model that the engineer wasn't too specific about (I hadn't quite got the full effects GAS so I wasn't that inquisitive). My clean tones all go directly to the POD and the others go ME50B > POD. There is a little wah, and a handful of the Muff model and the ODB-3 model, and some Slow Gear also. I'll let you judge for yourself how the tone is.

I would expect this to be a lateral move at best. There is a little bit more control of the ME50, but I wouldn't expect to get this great newfound tone over the Digitech. I would also expect the Me50B and 20B to sound very similar. I only tried the ME20 at a guitar center, but my initial impressions were, "this is like my 50b."

If you can get to a store with one in stock, plug into it and make sure that you are getting an upgrade.

I agree. Lateral move. The 50B has a better EQ section, and a dedicated compressor section... but if your looking for killer clean tone, go a different route. New amp, new cab, new pickups, or a pedal that's more of a preamp.

I own them both..I like the ME 20 because it is small and I can put it on my pedal board with other stuff. For stand alone use I would go with the ME-50b, which is way too big for a pedal board. They both have good Eq's.
BTW the bass enhance does not do a dang thing on the ME20b. Plus the ME-20b has better control over the mid range than the 50..
