Boss Noise Suppressor set up

Hey guys. Quick question. I have a noisy 62 AV Reissue Jazz bass. I usually play my Lakland 55-02 but I need to bust out my trusty jazz this weekend. The problem is on these wedding jobs, the venues all run on dimmer switches and lighting rigs. I always get the hum. Now I know EBTech and Electro Harmonix both have pedals that truly kill the hum, but I can't get one before Saturday.

So my question is, I already own the Boss NS. A few friends of mine always mounted them in their racks. So I tried that. Would it kill my hum from my bass if I switched the path of the pedals? Instead of Head - NS - Tuner - Big Muff, should I try Head - Tuner - Big Muff - NS? Or will it not make a difference, and I should look into the other hum eliminating pedals? Does the Boss NS do a different job entirely?

Thanks!

The noise suppressor is more like a noise gate, it will not remove hum, the only reason you'll notice a difference is because the NS-2 is a huge tone sucker.

Pedals won't remove hum, give the bass a proper shielding job, that is the only way to properly remove hum in all applications.

I did haha. Sorry should have explained that. Had a great shielding job done and every now and then a wedding venue will completely walk all over it. We have to run on old crappy power sometimes. It's sometimes unavoidable. (Enter the magic Hum X adapters. Amazing pieces, but regardless) I watched some review videos on the Electro Harmonix pedal and it seems to really do the job. Maybe thats what I need to look into for the occasions I get some buzz. Normally it's not a crazy problem, but I've played this particular venue before and it gave me an issue.

I haven't noticed a huge tone difference on the setting i have, but yes, you're right. It will absolutely do that. What is the most beneficial use for the Boss NS then? Just curious. I may be able to just ditch the pedal all together if it isn't serving a purpose. Especially if I can replace it with a pedal that will do what I need.

Yea I've noticed in certain settings tone and sustain can be compromised.
