Other than where they are made? No. There's actually an 'Octaver', with an "R" OC-2 as well. The MIJ ones are hyped as being better but....

No.

Or: Yes, but only an ancient mystical pedal shaman can tell you what it is.

Basically some people like to pay more for a pedal if it's got a rare sticker on the bottom.

If you're a Battlestar Galactica fan, Lay Down Your Burdens part 1 has a LOT of bass being played with an octave pedal. I'm rewatching season 2, and this episode has been playing the same bass riff with an octave pedal for the first 10 minutes of the episode.

All my old boss pedals are MIJ. Purely by fluke though, not because I just had to have a MIJ version...

They have never cost me a cent more than the Taiwan version was selling for.

i was wondering if anyone else has this (kind-of) problem:

my oc-2 spits & freaks out when i play certain notes, like the different octaves are conflicting with each other (which i think is pretty cool) but it seems their is no consistancy to it. is there anyway to curb this or is my pedal in-need of a service? like i said i think its pretty cool when it happens but ultimately feel i'd like a more 'stable' sound.

Blutrausch (Smooth Interlude)

played on a fretless with an oc-2

strongly recommend you buy the album, its full of amazing basslines; all fretless, and most with an oc-2

The pedal is pretty well known for its idiosyncrasies in tracking..... it doesn't track well on notes below a certain frequency. Some guys (myself included) like the quirkiness-- I actually bought the thing because of that characteristic.

The Digitech bass synth wah actually has a really good solid octave function in it; i use that when I want a solid octave-down and the boss when I want what the boss produces.

Thanks for that, yeah I too am a fan, I just wanted to check it wasn't in need of repair really. I too have the BSW but only really use the envelope filter settings. I have been meaning to sit down and get some usable sounds out of the other settings so I'll re-visit the octave one as well.
