Boss OC-2 distorting with active basses?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I just got a used OC-2 from the bay.
Apparently it is a black label (from the Japan/Taiwan) transition period.
here is the link to the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=220499813919

I tried the pedal with my Sadowsky PJ in active mode (slight bass boost) and in passive mode.

In active mode I get a distorting sound (in addition to the octaved sound), in passive mode, everything sounds just fine.

Is this normal or is this a lemon?

The output on both my Nordie equipped Stingrays is so hot, they actually distort the buffer of my OC-2 in bypass mode

Yeah I think you're just feeding it too hot a signal.

I do not want to fiddle with a volume knob.
It think it is rather difficult to to keep a consistent level when not having the Volume knob wide open.

I run a Warwick Corvette $$ in active and it runs fine. The tracking can get bit wonky though, but that's the nature of the beast with this pedal. However, I have to note that I always run it with a clean blend on a seperate channel so my volume will never go louder than the volume of my 'dirty' channel.

When I had an OC-2 I ran an EXH LPB-1 pedal to control signal level coming out of my basses going into the OC-2. Worked well and allowed me to run the basses full volume on the bass itself.
