Boss OC-2 / OC-3 Octave Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an OC-3 that I like, and use a lot. Here is my question to OC-2 and OC-3 users. How often do you ever use the 2 octave down? I never use the 2 octave down on mine. Here is why I ask. A former student of mine is a genius engineer who has taken to building pedals (clones and originals). Lucky for me, he wants to use me to test ideas. (He is currently building a BassBalls clone with an added bass boost switch - since the bassballs sucks the low end out of your tone.) Anyway, I was just talking to him about building an OC-2 clone with just the octave 1 and the direct knob . . . just a thought.

I've occasionally used my OCT2 knob, but it's very rare. I'd probably prefer the pedal without it.

He's pretty geeked about making it. He said it is an easy circuit, and I guess he found some NOS parts (I don't know which ones) for it that they don't make any more. When he makes one, I'll post a video review.

I say add something new instead of the OCT 2. I love my OC-2 but the OCT 2 is a tad useless for me.

I have a Danelectro Chili Dog (which I've read is an OC-2 ripoff). Same control layout, similar tone. I occasionally use the oct 2 but only in very small amounts to get extra beefy thick tone. But that also means I have to play pretty high on the neck. It's rare, but sometimes it's cool. I wouldn't complain if it only had one octave down.

I very rarely use the -2 oct on the OC-2. I usually run mine oct-1 full and direct at noon. If I use the -2 then it's that at noon and direct at about 3 o clock.

The -2 is really intended (or more practical) for guitar, not bass.

My guy has gotten it in his head that it would be really cool to combine the Oct -1 and direct from the OC-2 with a brassmaster clone in the same pedal . . . I've got to say, I really like the thoughts of that. He would have the OC-2 on the front end, and the brassmaster on the back end, with separate on/off stomp switches. Could be a very cool pedal.
