It does have a good deal of adjustability, but it's strictly a heavily distorted sound.
I, personally, don't dig the sound or how over-the-top it is, but some people really do.
Do a search and see what the other threads say about it (there's plenty of info here), and try it out yourself; everyone carries boss pedals in-store.

Well, I don't like the ODB-3 either.
To the OP, try one out in the store, if you like it then it's okay.
But there are a lot of better altenatives for overdrive.
I like my Ibanez Phat Hed,... to my taste.
Sansamp is also something to try out. |

I usually observe a "be nice to the newbie" policy and suggest others do the same, but clearly Mr. Conor is at the end of his rope. A rope with a noose on it.

Just browsing a few pages of the "Post your pedalboard" thread can show you the huge diversity there are in these effects.
tl;dr, demo/"rent" it before you buy it. |
