Boss ODB3 Bass Overdrive

Sign in to disble this ad
If anyones interested in hearing this pedal in a live video I have one posted here.
www.myspace.com/sunsetjunk
I set the pedal for mild overdrive as stated in the manual.
This pedal also works great as a clean boost if set like the manual suggests.
If you have a myspace page feel free to send a friend request.
Thanks

I just saw your other post about the Dunlop 105q wah pedal..I didnt comment on that, but now seeing another post with the same link, and (now I didnt listen to the mp3s, just watched the compilation) I could barely hear the bass under the heavy guitar solo'ing, and couldn't register the effects of either pedal. You're not just plugging your MySpace page as much as possible now, are you?

I have the Boss ODB3 on all the time set to mild overdrive so it's just adding a little dirt to the sound and also boosting the signal so I can clip the preamp tube in the SWR a little as well. I know it's hard to hear the bass over the too loud guitar but there are parts in the videos where you can see me use the CryBaby. It's hard to hear bass on laptop or monitor speakers. If you listen thru headphones that will help, also if you have a subwoofer along with your speakers that helps too.
And yes, I am trying to plug my myspace page, shameless self promotion is part of the music biz isn't it but I'm also into meeting fellow bassplayers and seeing what thier up to musically.
Anyways, thanks for checking it out even if you coundn't hear it that well.

Well sorry if I came off as harsh. I did like the music, the 3-piece instrumental work in that video sounded real good; you guys reminded me of when I saw Tim Reynolds a couple years ago with his band...he made attempts at vocals every now and then, but the band really shined when he just did his thing and the drummer and bassist played the song, props on keeping the groove.

i like your tone. reminds me of the deleo i was listening to before clicking your link. reallly enjoy your drummer too - intense and solid.

i assume you mean natural overdrive settings. i just dug out my behringer copy of this pedal today and it sounds fantastic on those settings. very similar to how my sansamp rpm is set at the moment. (well, i dial the gain and treble up just a hair from recommended settings).

Actually, I could hear the bass as easily as I could the guitar. Both were mixed quite nicely. I did notice the overdrive & it sounds good.

That is a nice sound. I got an ODB-3 a few weeks ago so far I haven't been able to get anything out of it that I really liked.

Can you give me any pointers? (like what settings you use) I don't have the manual, I snagged mine on ebay.

I play a Carvin LB75 though a Hartke 3500

Thanks

to get this tone try blend on full, gain on minimum, slight bass boost, treble cut the whole way down. small tweaks to gain and treble to suit. the manual is available on the boss website - http://www.roland.com/products/en/_s...sp=0&iCncd=304

well... i watched the compilation video and the "live at the underground" vids and i must say... you guys are pretty good! way to lock in with the drummer, man!

about the pedals. i tried the boss overdrive out, and wasn't really a fan of it (i'm just to in love with my sansamp!) but your tone sounded really good! you can really tell when you have a 3 piece band sound so much more full with a little dirt! albeit, my band has two guitars, and a completly different style, but i've started using distortion or overdrive under their solos and it just makes everything fill up. love it.

Hey Ihateusernames
Thanks for posting the link for the user manual. It really helps with this pedal. I would have never known about using it as a clean boost. Also, the gain on this pedal is super gainey even at low settings, not overdrive sounding at all, more fuzz and buzz than overdrive. But if you set it like the manual says with the gain all the way down and adjust the blend for more or less drive it works pretty good at overdrive.
I bought this pedal new so I got the manual which avoided a lot of guess work. I can see why some people would say this pedal sucks at overdrive if they overlooked these suggested settings. I had both Fulltone Bassdrives, the original and mosfet version and I like this Boss odb3 better because it keeps the note definition solid so in a band setting the fundamental is still there. The Fulltones clean boost was kick ass though. I would say the best I have ever used. I'm going to try thier Fat Boost someday, I hear it's pretty cool.

Thanks for posting that link, I had looked for it before without too much success.
