Which one Boss Makes several overdrive pedals: ODB3, SD1, OD3 and several others. They all all have their users, lovers and haters.

Just like "measure twice, cut once"... Read the reviews and threads twice, then purchase once.

Thinking out loud in text. This is what my grandma would sound like if she was on the internet. But she loves using pronouns with no antecedent.

I have the ODB-3. It's okay. There are better OD pedals out there for few bucks more. Overall it's not bad just be aware of the amount of low end you lose when it's engaged.

If you want a boss pedal that provides a heavy grind, the boss md-2 mega distortion would be a good choice. or if you want something that's less heavy, the penny pedals ds-1 bass modded distortion pedal would be a good choice. that pedal can go from subtle overdriven sound to a heavy distorted sound and will not obliterate low-ends. here's the link if you're interested in that pedal.

I know you said you are getting a boss unit but if you dont like it, check out the one i got:
HardWire CM-2 Tube Overdrive Overview
The thing i like about it is the separate bass AND treble control. As srxplayer said you can lose a lot of low end. With this pedal you can compensate for that by boosting the the lows and dropping back on the highs. That was a big factor for me since i was never a distortion on bass fan due to the low end drop.
