Thing is, I could see how this could be interesting. Have someone strum a chord, or pick the guitar up and pick a few notes, then start playing around with the pedals, or use a looper to feed the pedals tones over and over...but aside from looking at a zillion dollars worth of Boss pedals, I don't see the "art" in that at all. That's not art. That's just some pedals.

Artsy-Fartsy? Definitely.

That's 8K or more worth of pedals? Even used, you're into a few thousand bucks.

I think the same question could be asked of almost any art installation. Consider that this is a public display, and that most non-guitar people have never seen an effects pedal in action, let alone had the chance to stomp on one.

The picture of this little boy experimenting with it is actually pretty cool, IMHO.

As regards the price, I'll bet it's cheaper than most pieces of art on display in museums. It's interactive, creative, and interesting. More details about the installation here.

I think it's a good concept, perhaps it could be done a little better, but I don't understand why everyone seems to be objecting to it so much? I'm not particularly well versed in installations or art at all for that matter, but I mean who is to say how valuable/important/relevant it is as an artwork?

Besides, a few thousand dollars to create a piece really isn't that much when you put it into perspective considering a lot of art out there.

I think it's a really cool idea. The video of it is kinda poopy but if there was something more interesting musically going on it would be really neat. I know I could mess around with that setup for hours.

Actually how I feel. Looking at it, I think a better way to execute it would be to have put all the pedals under a case of some kind and figure out a way to make it easier to walk on, but still be able to activate the pedals, so that you can stand over the pedals and randomly activate them by walking, as opposed to tip-toeing over them.

This is actually a project that I want to execute one day, but I like sound, installation and interactive art.

Ive always thought it would be cool to split the signal from a guitar or something and feed it to pedals in random locations throughout a venue and then encourage people to find them all and get in on the fun. that video truly blows though as far as that goes.

Cool, not cool...
David Byrne is cooler than any of us, so coolness isn't really a factor one can consider.
It's an art installation, I'm sure it can produce great tones if you get lucky in your random walk.

I like it quite a bit. But that being said I'm mad because I think I spy a PS-3 there and am jealous I haven't gotten one yet.
