Boss pedal tone pot crackle -HELP?

Sign in to disble this ad
hello everyone, i just got hold of a used boss blues driver of ebay, and i noticed that the tone pot crackles when i move it, this isnt a major problem but its a bit annoying, i reckon it could just be dust as the pedal looks like its been through the wars abit, but what do you guys(and girls) think? and how can i fix it? the volume and gain knobs just come off but the tone one doesnt, any advice?
cheers

Get some spray contact cleaner. If you can get Caig De-Oxit over there, then that's the good stuff, but whatever they have at the local electronics shop will be OK. Pop open the bottom of the pedal, note the location of the three pots, and see if their round metal housings have a small hole. If they do, then brilliant- spray a bit of the contact cleaner in the hole and then rotate the knob shaft back and forth many times. If there's no hole, then just spray around the top edge of the pot and hope that by some voodoo a bit of the cleaner works its way in. Again, rotate the pot many times. If that doesn't clear it up, then the pot may in fact need replacing.
