I was under the impression that Ibanez was Japanese, so it wouldn't surprise me if they made their stuff there too...But in all honesty... I don't know.

The earlier ones (80's) were made there. They seem to fetch higher prices on ebay. I don't know about rare though I think its just the vintage aspect that makes them more expensive. I really couldn't care less though to be honest. I have made in Japan ones, and newer ones and they all sound/work fine for me.

Japanese ones go for more money on the used market. Some of the components are identical depending on the model; some of the Japan ones are better though.

They are worth more to collectors.

Boss made their pedals in Japan from the early days to the late '80s, then they moved to China, Korea, and other cheaper places. So a MIJ Boss pedal is not at all "rare", but it is older--and some people believe the older ones sound better, so they pay more for them. But in all honesty, there is little if any real difference, and MIJ Boss pedals are all over Ebay all the time, so the dollar difference is minimal. There are a couple of exceptions, where Famous Guitarist X claimed their secret tone box was a certain MIJ pedal, so the raving fanboy guitarists will pay top dollar for that one. But AFAIK the graphic EQ was never one of those collector-coveted ones. If anything, promoting it as an MIJ may help you sell it "at all", as opposed to not being able to unload it.

AFAIK Bongo,...Boss has only had production facilities in Japan and Taiwan. I could be wrong however.

Check this out:
