Boss PS-6 "S-Bend" Mode

Sign in to disble this ad
So, one of my favorite bassists uses this pedal (KC Wolf of The Chariot) but not for the harmony function but for it's last mode call "S-Bend" which to me seems like a whammy kinda thing.
You can set it to go up or down and how fast it attacks and decays. Which in all gets a lot of awesome sounds.
To listen to what I'm talking about it's about 4mins in to this video:

My Question tho: Is there a pedal out there that get's those crazy whammy style noises, dive-bombs and tape-warp just minus the harmonist part? Does Boss make just an "S-Bend" pedal? I'd rather not pay for the harmonist knowing I'll never use the harmony part.

I'm sure there are loads of these things everyone knows about but me but yeah. This is also my first thread so please bare with me. haha
Thanks guys.

Well, you need to pitch bend in order to whammy, so most if not all pedals with a whammy function will also have harmony functions.

If you're looking for a cheaper solution, the Behringer US600 is *cough* darn similar looking to the PS-6 but only costs $50. Otherwise there are a bunch of pedals with whammy modes (the PS-5, the aforementioned PS-3, Digitech Whammy IV, Eventide Pitchfactor, etc) that you could probably find cheaper used. They all work to varying degrees and you should search for individual reviews/opinions.

Last thing, if you do get one of these pedals, consider getting an expression pedal as well -- it is incredible fun to control the whammy with your foot directly.

You can get an effect like that on the Boss Gigadelay or that Roland Space Echo pedal replica they make.

the boss ps-5 could do similar things in t-bend mode. be warned that it means the pedal is always on and on the ps-5 it totally killed your tone.
